Are you feeling a little out of balance? Are your hormones causing you problems like anxiety, weight gain, or sleep disturbances? If so, please know you’re not alone. Every year, millions of women over the age of 40 suffer from hormonal imbalance. But don’t worry—there are things you can do to get your hormones back in balance. Keep reading for tips on how to do just that.
Self Love is a Must
What is the best gift you can give yourself as we approach this holiday season and Christmas?
If you are feeling bad because of a hormone imbalance, and you have been trying to fix it by taking more progesterone or helping yourself get both progesterone and estrogen, but it hasn’t worked, the reason might be that you don’t have enough time to take care of yourself. This inability to take the time to care for yourself is a common scenario I see in my practice on a daily basis.
You can add hormones to your system to try and get the balance right, but you also need to do some things to improve your overall health. If you don’t do these things, you will not be able to fix the imbalance completely.
There is a way to get to the root of this imbalance. There are different things you can do to get your balance back and feel more vibrant. Whether you take hormone replacement therapy or not, it is important to learn how to take care of yourself so you can feel better. It is crucial to do this even if you are busy with your job, career, family, social life, and everything in between.
A gift from YOU to YOU
This is a time of year during the holiday season when it gets crazy, and often our hormone symptoms can get pretty crazy with it. One of the reasons we have more hormonal symptoms is that our bodies are not able to keep up with the demands we put on them. Hormone replacement therapy is typically not going to be enough to overcome it. In some cases, it may not help.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is to take some time to relax. This means taking care of yourself and doing things that make you happy. When you do this, you are giving yourself a gift that is just as important as any other present.
It can be that simple.
Maybe you need to have a bath at night before you go to bed. Maybe you need to take a 10-15minute nap instead of getting all of your tasks done before you get to bed. There are so many different things that we always have something to do for, but we never actually take the time to take care of ourselves. Sometimes you can be left at the end of the day wondering, “What’s the point of it all if I feel so terrible?”
The Disease of Busyness
You don’t enjoy your life. You’re snappy with your partner, kids, and loved ones, and you can’t get out and do the things you enjoy. You feel too crummy, too tired, and too sluggish all the time. Again, hormones alone can’t fix this.
If the hormones feel out of balance, if you’re feeling a lot of these symptoms, you’re approaching or transitioning into perimenopausal time, certainly, you’re looking to utilize something like hormone replacement to help you feel better.
It may or may not have helped you a little bit. What’s certain is that it’s not going to fix the disease of busyness.
There are many things you can do to simplify your life and make it easier. One of the most important things is to take some time for yourself, without stress or pressure. This is something that is very important for keeping your hormones in balance. When your hormones are balanced, you feel better and are healthier overall. You’re also less likely to develop a chronic disease in the future.
We know stress is one of the main reasons people develop cardiometabolic conditions. Stress can even lead to the development of things like cancer. It is important to note, however, that stress is not the only thing that causes these problems. There are other factors at play, which stress can certainly aggravate and trigger in our bodies.
We need to be very mindful of this, and we need to sometimes pull the plug on all that busyness.
Be reminded that the number one gift you can give yourself as you move towards and into the holiday season, especially around Christmas time, is the gift of time and the gift of taking care of yourself.
The answer to rebalancing your hormones may come as a bit of a surprise to you. It’s not a supplement or a diet change—it’s something that starts with self-love. When we take time for ourselves, even if it’s just 10 minutes every day, we give our bodies and minds the chance to recalibrate. And that’s where real change begins.
