Nina’s Story: How Functional Medicine Saved My Menopause Transition

In this video, my patient Nina shares her story of working with me and the amazing health journey she went on. She offers some great takeaways for anyone considering working with a functional medicine approach through me and is an excellent advocate for the benefits of this type of care.

How it Started

Nina was feeling exhausted, weighed down, and lost. She had no idea what was going on with her body since she was in menopause and felt like she couldn’t catch a break. That’s when she first came across my social media platforms and started watching my videos. At first, Nina was hesitant. She wasn’t sure if functional medicine was right for her.

What Nina has been dealing with includes fatigue, gaining a lot of weight fast, and seemingly having no direction on what to do next. She was in menopause and couldn’t figure out what was going on with her body.

Understanding Your Own Body

Through our time working together, she attests to a big difference in working with me compared to when she tried to do it on her own in the past. She found the direction and explanations from the videos very helpful in understanding what her body needed to change to feel better.

It is crucial to understand why you are feeling the way you are to be able to control your health better.

Getting Better

After just a few sessions, she began to see results. Her energy levels increased, her mood swings subsided, and she even lost weight. While she was learning how to eat right, including when and what was appropriate, it helped tremendously in the process. The advice on exercise also had a great impact on what was best suited according to her body’s needs. Nina said she was grateful for the changes in her lifestyle as well as for the guidance and support she received through this program.

At the beginning of the individualized program, we had to do some specialized functional lab testing. My patients, Nina included, found it really helpful in understanding what was going on with their bodies and how to get better. The journey of each individual is unique, but by following their progress from where they were getting to how things look now, we can see very significant differences.


When I asked Nina how she feels now, she said, 

“Overall, I feel great. I have energy. I have ambition. I’m motivated. I enjoy eating healthy. When I don’t eat healthy, because I am human and there are slipups, I know the difference. I can tell when my body goes in a bad direction.” 

“People have said to me that I just look different and I do! I feel different.” 

Sleep is also a little bit better. She is still in menopause, so occasionally she’ll get hot flashes. But Nina keeps on being hopeful that eventually, this will subside.

She has come a long way from where she was at with her health, energy, vibrance, and how she looks and feels, and she recognizes for sure that health is a continuum. There will still be things to work on, but the strides she took are commendable.

Advocating for other women 

She was so amazed by the transformation that she decided to share her story in the hope it would help other women who are going through the same thing. if there is one thing Nina could maybe let other women know, this is her message:

“Well, first of all, I’m 48. You are not alone. There are other women that are going through what you are going through. You’re not crazy. Be in tune with your body. You are the only one who knows your body. So be in tune with it and really know what works and what doesn’t. Reach out. There’s nothing more than talking to other women that are in your shoes.”

You need to be your own best advocate for your health, and you certainly, Nina, have done that. Like her, make it a goal for you to be able to grow old gracefully and with the energy to continue it.
