Are you tired of dealing with your period every month?

If so, then you’re not alone.

You’re like many women where the period can be a real pain. You may experience heavy bleeding, cramps, and other uncomfortable symptoms.

Many women experience these issues as they enter their 40s and beyond. While you may rely on over-the-counter prescription medicine to help you get through your period, don’t worry – many natural solutions can help.

In this blog, you discover natural solutions that can provide relief. Check out these tips to help deal with heavy bleeding during your period.

Passion For Helping Women

I’m Angela Simpson, a functional medicine practitioner, and healthcare professional. I have been working in women’s health for over 20 years. I have a passion for helping women for those in the age group of 35 and beyond.

If you are a woman in this age group, you are starting to have some changes in your hormones. You are wondering what the heck is going on. You want to understand how you can help yourself feel better both now and in the long term.

I can help you learn what’s going on with you, where the symptoms are coming from and how you can develop a plan to rebalance your hormones naturally. You can then feel like your best self again for the long term. A long-term solution is better than just managing symptoms by trying to get results through a quick fix that brings about wonders and hoping for success.

Understanding of What You’re Going Through

And I’ve tried all those things myself. I’ve also suffered from hormone imbalance on and off for most of my life. I understand what’s causing these problems. I know what I need to do to keep my hormones balanced. You may or may not be at this point yet. I want to share with you today’s usual events happening, especially for women going into their mid to late thirties and beyond.

You are leading up to your transition into menopause, which is heavy periods or heavy bleeding. I know this can be very debilitating. It can be to the point that you’re at work or you’re at a function. You may notice something is leaking, and you need to run to the bathroom.

You have to run out of the room and need to take care of things. It’s a pain in the neck. It’s embarrassing, especially if anyone understands and knows what’s happening to you. You may also avoid telling them because you don’t want them to know or understand what’s happening. For example, you’re at a function. You will probably tell your close friend or family member about what’s happening to you.

Effects on Your Life

There’s no doubt it’s going to influence your life. It’s not fun. It’s not something you want to have to deal with. It’s very disruptive to your life. It can also cause symptoms of fatigue, brain fog, and feeling very low in energy. It can also lead to this state, especially during the recovery time after having your heavy period.

Some have heavy periods lasting from seven to ten days, or sometimes even longer. I spoke with someone who is getting closer to menopause. She’s in her late forties. She said she just had 21 days and was so exhausted from it. Of course, this makes sense.

Your Way to Recovery

We need to ponder if this is happening to you. Is this a natural consequence of aging, or is something else happening? Is there an imbalance? If you understood where the imbalance was coming from, you could learn how to get an answer to this imbalance to start to lighten up the flow or become more consistent. It’s a pain in the neck.

You don’t know when it is going to happen. You don’t know how heavy it will be or how inconvenient it will be for your life. But, I can help you achieve a normal life. You can have it every day of the month, instead of just a select period when you’re not having those heavy bleeds. There is a way to get to the bottom of this. I will find what you need to do to understand what’s happening.

Step 1: Functional Laboratory Testing

One of the initial things you need to do is the proper lab testing. It involves testing your hormones to understand if the levels are if they’re balanced or out of balance. It does involve going a little beyond that, specifically understanding how the hormones are processed and utilized in your body.

One hormone is high, and the other is low. The two hormones must be balanced relative to each other, or the other is out of balance. Your hormones are out of line where they should be for your age. We’re checking how these hormones balance, including how they are working inside your body.  It involves some Functional lab testing.

The tests are over and above doing some basic blood labs with looking at your hormones. As a functional medicine practitioner, I can request to have these tests run and get the results for you. The results will help both of us. If you decide to work together, the next step would be for you to start to get the balance back in your body.

The first step is to know and understand what’s happening with these imbalances. You need to find out and get a plan to help these symptoms start to resolve. The other thing is it’s important for women also to understand what’s happening with the levels of the hormones. The processing of the hormones is equally essential in understanding why your hormones are out of balance in the first place and leading to the symptom of heavy bleeding because often women have no idea why this is happening.

Many women will assume it’s just part of the aging process. Some women have bad luck. Some women might have some genetics, and they’re simply more prone to these kinds of things happening. Some of these things might be somewhat true. There is a reason beyond your hormone levels why you’re having these issues with heavy bleeding. It could be a long, irregular, and inconvenient in your life and affect how you feel.

Step 2: Consider Other Systems of Your Body

The next step after hormone lab testing is to understand the status of the other systems of your body and whether they are also out of balance. These systems probably contributed to the hormones becoming out of balance in the first place. It could have started many years ago.  These things could not be about aging.   After all, not every female suffers from heavy bleeding as they approach that transition towards menopause.

You may be suffering from these symptoms long before menopause. And you may have suffered from them on and off your whole life. There was a woman who called me last week. She has been suffering from these symptoms since she was 16 years old. She’s now in her forties, and she never found the solution.

We need to go beyond hormones. You need to understand what’s happening with the systems of your body. It will involve working with a functional practitioner like myself. I will be putting all the pieces together for you. Doing this will help you understand why this is going on.

It is a possibility that there are imbalances in the gut. It can also be in the liver. Primary detox pathways for your hormones are taking place in the liver. They’re backing up the hormones that are not processed correctly. And this is a big part of why the hormones are out of balance. But the only way to discover this is to work with someone taking specific history and understands your potential for this.

And it could have started way back from when you were a child. It may be related to your medication using antibiotics, antacids, and steroid medication for various illnesses and conditions. All of these things can have an impact on our gut health. These, in turn, might impact how our body processes and utilizes hormones.

We have to understand where we’re starting from the first step by looking at the whole picture of your health now. It is not only zone in on the hormones trying to rebalance the higher or the low. That’s essential for you to understand how to get a plan in place to help you rebalance your hormones and heal your body for the long term.

Step 3: Stay Committed to Change

The third step is the commitment to change. You need to understand that it will take more than just adding hormones that are low level and bringing them up. It will take more than taking medication to help you feel better.

You’re trying to get back to optimal energy, optimal wellness, and feeling balanced with your moods. It’s a pain in the neck because of the inconvenience caused by the four, five, or 20 days of your heavy bleeding. It is happening due to the hormones that are out of balance.

These are the top three steps women like you must be willing to look into if you want to deal with your issues. You start to understand what’s going on with your body relating to these steps. These steps are needed for you to start getting your balance back. You can begin to heal from this heavy period symptom that may or may not have been plaguing you for many years.

If you’re in your late thirties, early forties, or not close to menopause, it is unfortunate if you have heavy periods. It is possible. You can just tolerate your condition with the possibility of getting worse over the next five, ten, twelve, plus years. You can deal with it now. You might be discharging a lot of blood, and it’s not nice to talk about it.

You’ll also start to get low in certain minerals, especially a mineral called iron, with which you may be familiar. Having heavy periods for quite some time can affect other aspects of your health. It can even make your immune system more vulnerable and potentially make you more prone to developing certain conditions and diseases.

It’s not something you can just leave alone and hope to improve when you start to transition into menopause. Things need to be dealt with now, or you could be at risk for other conditions or diseases later.

It’s Time to Act

I hope this helps you. I hope you have a better understanding now of why you potentially could be having these heavy periods. Importantly, you need to look into discovering why these cycles are heavy. You will be able to get the answers you need to know.

If you’re like most women I work with, you’re probably looking for a long-term solution. Something is happening to rebalance your hormones and restore your overall wellness, vitality, and zest for life.
